Wesbank Financing in Botswana hosted their third annual Motor Show at the Fairground exhibition complex in Gaborone Botswana on the 8th and 9th of May 2009.

Dealers and suppliers of motor related products had the opportunity to exhibit their merchandise during the two day show which attracted and show-cased some of the latest technology within the motor industry and some superb cars. Audi, for example showed off their R8 super car, while BMW exhibited their latest 7 series and the new X6 Coupe Mercedes displayed a SL65AMG bi-turbo, while Nissan hit the stands with their “fast and furious” Nissan Skyline GT-R.

The commercial vehicle segment comprised of Mercedes, FUSU, M.A.N and VOLVO and the leader of the pack, Scania. Scania Botswana had an impressive product line-up, exhibiting a complete product range, starting with trucks for construction, distribution and long-haul, plus busses and for the first time at the expo on display was a Scania 250kva power generator, complete built with weather and sound proof canopy.

Visitors to the Scania demonstration had the opportunity to inspect a P380CB8x4 Cement Mixer, various P270LB6x2 distribution trucks, a G420LA6x4 Long-haul tractor, the special R500LA6x4 ADR for fuel and dangerous road goods transport. What impressed the public and potential customers the most was the radiant luxury and comfort exuded by the two Scania busses on display - the new 5 cylinder F270 Irizar, and the 70-seater Viaggio with 310hp on a 6x2 chassis.

The Scania exhibition attracted the crowd’s full attention, and most visitors had the opportunity to play “trucker” for a day. The customers and public were, as always, received and welcomed in true Scania hospitality, while expert advice and assistance was provided by the Scania Botswana sales team together with representatives from Scania SA, specifically from the Export department, Scania Finance and Insurance. Also joining the team was representatives from Marcopolo and Irizar. Topping the guest list was a representative from the Scania Bus and Coach Division in Sweden who got to experience first hand the African transport demands.
